Wedding Recap: Reception

This final wedding recap will cover our wedding reception.  If you missed any of the other recap posts, be sure to check them out!

After the ceremony, we all headed back to the Sheraton to get spruced up for the reception.  The boys changed from black bow ties to pink plaid bow ties.

The girls touched up their hair and makeup.

And I drank my first red bull!  I thought a little extra energy couldn’t hurt me on this special day…right? 🙂

During the cocktail hour of our reception, Brian and I actually ate our dinner.  This would allow us to have time to go around to each table and mingle and talk with our guests while they were eating.  It would also guarantee that they would be at their seats and not on the dance floor.

After we were done eating, we enjoyed a drink (or two!) with our bridal party.  Brian and I made it clear that after the ceremony was over their one job was to have a great time!

As we enjoyed our drinks before heading into the reception, our guests enjoyed appetizers, cocktails, and were able to mingle with each other before finding their seats for dinner.

All of the details of the reception really came together, and I was so happy with the overall theme.

One of my favorite things about the reception was the cookie bar.  The cookie bar featured five types of homemade cookies (made by my mom!!) that guests could put in baggies labeled with our wedding logo to take home for the evening.  Considering most of the cookies were gone by the end of the night, I would say our guests loved it too.

Once the doors were open for guests to find their dinner seats, Adam and Kenny (our brothers) welcomed our guests to the reception.

After that, dinner was served!  While our guests were enjoying their dinner, Brian and I walked around to each table and snapped a picture with each family or couple.  This also allowed us to say hello and thank you for coming to EVERYONE.  We were so thankful to have these moments with each of our guests.

The next thing we knew, the wedding coordinator was telling us that it was time to cut the cake.   I was so excited to taste our cake, because we picked a strawberry cake with buttercream icing and white chocolate shavings…yes it was as good as it sounded!

wedding

The cake topper was actually the cake topper from Brian’s parent’s wedding.

With a little instruction from our photographer as to how to cut the cake, Brian and I were ready to slice.

wedding

weddingWe didn’t discuss it before the wedding, but luckily Brian and I were on the same page about NOT smashing cake into each other’s faces 🙂

weddingAfter cake, it was time for toasts.  Both of my siblings spoke, and Brian’s brother gave his best man speech.  Luckily, our siblings are way more funny than Brian and I could hope to be and the speeches were amazing! They were sentimental, funny, and full of love.

After the toasts, Brian and I headed to the dance floor for our first dance which was to “Your Song” sung by Ellie Goulding.  It was absolutely perfect!

DSC_0131My dad and I danced to “Everything I Do I Do it For You” by Bryan Adams.  I picked this song, because I remember my dad performing it when I was young.  From the moment I heard him sing it, I knew we would dance to it at my wedding.

Brian and his mom danced to “To Make You Feel My Love” sung by Adele.

When our dances were complete, it was time for some fun…the bouquet and the garter toss!

wedding

It was so fun to have all of the girls together trying to catch the bouquet 🙂

A dear friend from high school, Ashley, ended up catching it.  I was so happy for her and she was so excited to catch it!

Then, it was time for the garter….Brian danced over to me to “I’m Too Sexy for My Shirt” by Right Said Fred.  So funny!

Who caught the garter…none other than my little brother!

I don’t think anything could have made Kenny happier!

After that it was time to break it down, and literally our dance floor was full the entire night.

wedding

Brian and I had such a blast and we made sure to enjoy the dance floor as much as our guests…if not more!

It was a perfect night.

Even though I have gone through several recaps of our wedding weekend, I have not come anywhere close to capturing how amazing, emotional, memorable, and magical this time was for Brian and I.  I am so lucky to be married to Brian, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.  July 5, 2013 will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
